The TURBO program focuses on reclaiming public space by way of experimental tactical urbanism . Our team at the Design Center take issues and ideas in the form of a Work Order” , which locates Nashville neighborhood problems on a map. We work with the people in that specific neighborhood community to analyze the problem, conceptualize a temporary intervention, then plan and execute the installation. See Our Most Recent Project Why is reclaiming public space important? How do we do it? Since the use of the car has exploded in the last 80 years, pedestrian-friendly spaces have drastically declined. Now, city spaces often serve only one purpose or modality. This has impacted our ability to be creative about their uses. We aim to work together to take back those spaces using tactical urbanism . Tactical urbanism involves temporary, low-cost projects to improve safety and beautify our streets while informing long-term permanent changes across the city. Tactical urbanism can be done quickly by community members while avoiding expensive construction costs and city bureaucracy. Together, we are T actical URB anism O rganizers. How does it work What does it take Do you feel unsafe in an intersection? Is there an underutilized space in your community? Tell us about it. Submit a Work Order Work orders are what TURBO uses to identify problems in neighborhoods. YOU fill out the problems and YOUR ideas for solutions.
